julie-burroughsOur volunteer gardener Julie Burroughs has been planting seeds of inspiration throughout Shropshire. Julie has been nominated for the Pride of Shropshire Awards under the Environmental category in recognition of her fantastic work in the local community, protecting and developing the environment for residents and wildlife alike. We hope you’ll show your support and vote for Julie by picking up a copy of the Shropshire Star and cutting out special tokens which will be published in the newspaper during October.

Julie is involved with a number of environmental groups and has led many efforts in the county to protect local wildlife and improve environmental conditions. She’s been leading an initiative with Friends of Apley Woods, building shelters for wildlife and establishing protective measures to ensure it remains a safe and loved environment for residents large and small.

Julie said: “I love working with nature and I think that by coming together as a community we can make a real difference to our local environment.

“I’ve recently been short-listed for the Pride of Shropshire Environmental Champion Award. Volunteers don’t do what they do for awards and accolades but I feel proud that the environmental work I am doing with the local community is being recognised in such a positive way.”

Julie is working with the Shropshire Wildlife Trust and the Environment Agency on the pilot programme of Love Your River Telford, which works to train volunteers to monitor local watercourses and report problems such as pollution and blockages.

To support Julie please buy a copy of the Shropshire Star and vote for Julie Burroughs in the Environmental category.
