Art therapy
We offer art therapy as a gentle, supportive way to help you explore and express difficult thoughts and feelings through creativity.
Art therapy can be especially helpful if you find it hard to put emotions into words, or if you are feeling anxious or overwhelmed following a life-limiting diagnosis.
Art therapy provides a calm, non-judgemental space where you can focus on yourself and your wellbeing. No artistic experience or ability is needed – the process is about expression, not creating “good” art.
What to expect
Our art therapy sessions are led by a qualified art therapist, who will support you to explore your thoughts and emotions using a range of materials such as paint, clay and drawing tools. Your therapist is there to listen and guide you, not to teach or interpret your artwork.
Sessions are free of charge and tailored to your individual needs. Some people benefit from one session, while others may attend several. Sessions last up to an hour and take place in our therapy rooms at the Shrewsbury and Telford hospices.
Referrals
You can refer yourself to art therapy, or a member of your care team can make a referral on your behalf. Your first session is an opportunity to talk about your needs and decide together whether art therapy feels right for you.
All sessions are confidential and any artwork created will be stored securely. Nothing will happen without your consent, which you may withdraw at any time.
Please see www.baat.org and www.hcpc-uk.org for further information about art therapy.
