Residents are being urged to support our new charity shop when it opens its doors to the community later this year.

We are expanding with a new store in the Monkmoor area of Shrewsbury, which will be our fifth to open in the town.

A recruitment drive is currently under way with two jobs up for grabs – a full-time shop manager and a part-time assistant manager.

With preparations to convert the empty unit in Conway Drive having already under way, we are appealing for donations of stock and for volunteers to help the new team run the store.

Lynn Preece, area shop manager, said: “Shrewsbury shoppers are so supportive and I’m delighted we can open a fifth Severn Hospice shop for them.

“Wyle Cop really has that ‘on the Cop’ boutique feel, our Furniture Store has a specialist offering, our superstore is the largest charity shop in the county and Mardol is very much one of our traditional shops.

“Monkmoor will definitely add something new to that mix, not least because we’ll be right on the doorstep of a popular residential area.”

It will join a network of 26 Severn Hospice shops stocking everything from homewares and clothing to jewellery, bags and accessories.

Each year our shops generate £1 million for the care of people across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and Mid Wales living with an incurable illness.

Lynn added: “The new shop means we’ll have even more space to accept donations and we hope people will continue to bring us their books, clothes, records and more.

“We’re on the look-out now for a new team of staff and volunteers – if you think you’d like the challenge of helping generate income to care for patients and their families living with incurable illnesses get in touch.”

An official opening date has not yet been set but it is expected to open towards the beginning of May.
