Supporters are being invited to step up for us this summer as our popular walking challenge returns with a brand-new summer twist.
The Severn Hospice ‘Walk in our shoes’ challenge encourages participants to take on a daily step goal while raising vital funds for the care we provides to local people living with incurable illness.
This year, supporters can join our challenge on any month between June and September, allowing them to fit it around holidays, family life and summer plans.

Nicky Green, our senior community fundraiser, said: “Our Walk in our shoes challenge launched six years ago as a virtual fundraiser during the pandemic, but it’s since become a firm favourite among local people thanks to how easy it is to take part and join in.
“This year, we wanted to turn it into more of a summer challenge to give people a little more flexibility, allowing them to choose the month that works best for them.
“Participants can decide whether to make the most of sunny days, staying active during the school holidays or simply fit it around work and other commitments – we wanted it to work for as many people as possible.”
10,000 steps a day
Participants are encouraged to aim for 10,000 steps a day, matching the average number of steps a hospice nurse or member of the care team walks each day while providing specialist care and support for patients and families.
Nicky added: “While we invite supporters to match our nurses’ steps, this year’s challenge is all about flexibility, so participants can choose a goal that feels achievable for them.”
Families are once again being encouraged to take part together, making it a shared summer challenge for all ages and abilities. There’s even an incentive for pet pooches to take part.
“Walk in our shoes has always been a really special challenge for us because it’s simple, flexible and brings people together in support of their local hospice,” said Nicky.
Registration costs £5 per person and includes a t-shirt so participants can show they’re taking part in something special. For an additional £3, dogs can also join in with their own branded bandana.
Grateful
Everyone completing the challenge will receive a certificate to celebrate their achievement, with extra rewards available for fundraising milestones. Those raising £50 will receive a medal, and anyone raising £150 or more will receive a special gift.
Nicky added: “Fundraising challenges like this are incredibly important to us. We love bringing people together to support our care, and every pound they raise helps us support local families during some of the most difficult times in their lives.
“We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who takes part.”
