Severn Hospice raised against the clock to open a temporary shop after urgent building repairs forced the closure of its existing town centre store.
Managers at our Whitchurch shop were shocked to discover earlier this year that the floor of the shop required extensive and immediate repairs.
The unexpected findings meant the shop had to close while the essential work was carried out, leaving our charity facing the loss of valuable income – and bargain hunters were left missing out.
Temporary shop
Thanks to the support of local partners, we have now secured a temporary premises just a short distance away, allowing the Whitchurch team to continue welcoming customers, receiving donations and raising funds while repairs take place.
The temporary shop is now open from Monday to Saturday between 9am-5pm and located at 29 High St, Whitchurch SY13 1AZ.
Shoppers and donations to our network of 31 shops generate more than £1.4 million each year, helping to fund care and support for local people and their families living with incurable illness across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and North Powys.
Vital
Kay Britton, our Associate Director of Trading said: “We were naturally very concerned when the extent of the damage to the building became apparent and it became clear the shop would need to close while repairs are carried out.
“All our shops play a vital role in funding hospice care, so it was important for us to find a solution that would allow us to continue serving the local community.
“We’re delighted to have secured a temporary location in Whitchurch and would like to thank everyone who has helped make this possible.”
Quality
The temporary shop offers the same range of quality pre-loved clothing, homeware, books, toys and other bargains that customers have come to expect from our retail stores.
Kay added: “All of our care is provided free of charge but it isn’t without a cost – we need to raise around £2 for every £3 we spend.
“Every purchase, donation and volunteer helps us continue being there for local people when they need us most. That’s why keeping a presence in Whitchurch was so important.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming both familiar faces and new customers through the doors of our temporary shop.”
Shoppers and donors are encouraged to visit the temporary Whitchurch shop while work continues at the original premises.
