Midnight Walk 2016 Wendy PeateFriends and family of Emma Preece, a mother of two from Telford who lost her battle with cancer last year at the age of 32, are hoping to inspire others as they step out in support of our hospice.

Team Emma will be amongst the hundreds of women from across the region taking part in our Midnight Walks in May.

The popular ladies-only 8km sponsored walks are taking place in Shrewsbury on Saturday 7th May and Telford on Saturday 21st May.

Wendy Peate, Emma’s sister, said: “Emma enjoyed coming to the hospice, she was treated as a person and not just an illness. It was the little things, like being able to bring her fish and chips or a MacDonald’s breakfast, that made such a difference.

“As a family we will never forget the wonderful care everyone at the hospice gave to Emma during the last 12 months of her life. It’s difficult to put into words just how special a place the hospice is, they focus on life and making the most of what time you have left.

“Thanks to the hospice we were able to go on one last family holiday and Emma got to spend one last Christmas with her two young children. All these happy memories are what help us through the difficult days.

Team Emma at 2015 Midnight Walks“Before she died I promised Emma I would raise money for the hospice so others could benefit from their loving care. Last year a group of us took part in the Midnight Walks, it was emotional at times but we had fun. It was important for us that we were all there to support the hospice in Emma’s memory.”

Elodie Home, Fundraising Events Manager at Severn Hospice, said: “Like so many women, Wendy and the other members of Team Emma have a very personal and moving reason for taking part in our Midnight Walks. This year we are encouraging all those who sign up for our Midnight Walks to share their story and inspire others to join us and do the same.

“Now in its ninth year, our Midnight Walks are amongst the most popular events we organise. This year, to keep things interesting and to appeal to more women, the Midnight Walks will start at 10pm so that walkers finish for midnight rather than start at midnight.

“The walks are only open to women over the age of 12 years old, but men can still be involved by volunteering on the night. Without the support of over 200 hundred volunteers who give up their Saturday night to lend a hand we wouldn’t be able to hold such events.”

Registration for this year’s Midnight Walks is £12.50 per person and each lady taking part will receive a commemorative t-shirt to wear on the night.
