Supporters raided wardrobes, cupboards and shelves to ensure our newly refurbished Mardol shop was fully stocked in time for its grand reopening this week.

And with Market Hall traders supplying shoppers with tasty treats while they browsed and Town Crier Martin Wood lending very vocal support, it was a real celebration of all things ‘community’.

Shop manager Elizabeth Andrews said: “What a fantastic opening day, I’d like to thank all those who helped make today such a success with special thanks to our friends over at the Market Hall and to Martin the Town Crier for their support.

“Last year, the hospice helped more than 360 people within five miles of the shop so our community connection is very strong.

“We are so grateful for the way in which residents responded to our appeal for help in restocking our shelves. It is only through the generosity of residents that we are able to help local families who need it.

“The shop has got off to a flying start taking over £1,500 on its first day which is absolutely fantastic!”
