On a gloriously sunny day in May a team of nine volunteers from BT Fleet, part of the BT Group, spent the day volunteering in the award-winning gardens at our hospice in Telford. This was the second year the team, made up of volunteers from across the country, swapped their regular jobs for a day of hard graft in our gardens.

The team spent the day laying turf and planting a variety of shrubs and plants, bought with money raised by our volunteer gardeners, in the gardens at the front of the hospice which provide a warm welcome to visitors.

Dave Edwards, Senior Compliance Manager at BT Fleet and project leader, said: “Working for the BT Group we are actively encouraged to volunteer and help make a difference in our local community. The hospice is wonderful local charity that has touched the lives of so many people and we are proud to support them.

“We’ve had a wonderful day and everyone at the hospice has made us feel so welcome once again. The team have worked really hard but have thoroughly enjoyed their day out of the office, it’s been a great team building exercise and we’re looking forward to next year.”

Lucy Ruff, Fundraising Manager at Severn Hospice, said: “It’s been lovely to welcome Dave and the team back to our hospice in Telford. I’d like to thank them for all their hard word work, the new turf and plants look great and are a welcome addition to the gardens.

“The team from BT Fleet are one of many local businesses that show their support for the hospice by spending the day volunteering. Corporate volunteering is a great way to make a difference and contribute to the vital work of the hospice, it’s also a fantastic team building exercise.”
