Book lovers are being invited to a brand-new community event this weekend as Severn Hospice hosts its first-ever Big Book Fair.

Taking place on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 October, from 10am to 4pm at the charity’s Refresh café in Bicton, the free event will bring together hundreds of pre-loved books, vinyl records and sheet music, all waiting to find a new home.

Visitors can explore everything from bestselling fiction and biographies to cookery books, children’s stories and hidden literary gems. Whether you’re searching for your next page-turner, something to entertain young bookworms or hoping to uncover a forgotten favourite, there will be plenty to discover, organisers promise.

Families are welcome throughout the weekend, with a dedicated children’s area and free story-time sessions hosted by John Britton at midday on both days. Refresh café will be open for takeaway drinks and light refreshments and four-legged friends are welcome too.

Kay Britton, Associate Director of Trading at Severn Hospice, said: “We’re really excited to be launching our first Big Book Fair and to welcome people for a weekend celebrating the written word.

“Whether you’re a lifelong book lover, a parent looking to encourage a young reader or someone who enjoys discovering something a little different, we hope there’ll be something for everyone. We’re looking forward to seeing people come together, sharing recommendations and perhaps finding a few unexpected treasures along the way.”

She added: “Every purchase will help support the specialist care and support we can give local  families living with incurable illness.”

Admission is free and visitors are welcome to drop in at any time between 10am and 4pm on both days.
