There’s never been a better time to support us, thanks to a fantastic donation from Oswestry-based clockmaker Newgate.

Newgate Clocks, which has been designing and making clocks for 35 years, recently uncovered a collection of archive sample clocks while clearing space in its warehouse.

History

Jim Read, managing director at Newgate Clocks, said: “We unearthed several hundred archive sample clocks, one from almost every clock family we have ever made, brand new, never sold, never used. First off the production line, kept as design records, and forgotten about for up to 25 years.

“We knew Severn Hospice, we admire what they do, and we thought clocks with that kind of history deserved to end up somewhere good. So we handed the whole lot over.”

Unique

All the clocks are now for sale across our shops giving customers the chance to own a unique piece of local history while supporting us.

Jim added: “Each Newgate clock is a genuine piece of our history, with 35 years of a British design business behind it. We hope people enjoy them.”

Grateful

Kay Britton, Associate Director of Trading at the hospice, said: “We’re so grateful to Newgate Clocks for such a thoughtful gift.
“Our shops are wonderful treasure troves where people can discover amazing finds, and I’m sure these lovely pieces of local history will prove popular with customers.

“Every donation and every purchase supports our care. As a hospice, the care we provide for local people is free, but it isn’t without cost. We have to raise £2 for every £3 we spend, and our shops go a long way towards helping us raise those funds.”

The hospice’s retail shops raise more than £1 million each year, providing vital income for its caring services.
