A super-fundraiser from Telford has achieved his goal of raising £20,000 for two charities.

Deputy Mayor of Telford and Wrekin Cllr Raj Mehta set out to raise £10,000 for both our hospice and John Taylor hospice in Birmingham.

The father of two set out on his mammoth fundraising efforts after being inspired by the work of both hospices and his children.

Cllr Mehta said: “I set out on this journey to raise funds for two very worthy charities. I appreciate how lucky and blessed I am to have had the life I have enjoyed and I wanted to give something back to the community where I live here in Telford and where I work in Birmingham.”

As part of his fundraising efforts Cllr Mehta has taken part in a 17 mile hike, organised a charity gala evening as well as a sponsored super-shave which saw him shave off his hair and beard.

Norma Ross, director of income generation at Severn Hospice, said: “What Raj has achieved in such a short space of time is absolutely fantastic. The money he has raised will help make such a big difference for both charities who rely on the generosity of others to continue to provide expert care for those facing the most difficult of times.

“On behalf of everyone at Severn Hospice I would like to congratulate Cllr Mehta for achieving his goal and thank him for all his hard work and dedication over the last few months.”
