Volunteer in our hospices
There are a variety of different volunteer roles at our hospices in Shrewsbury, Telford and Newtown.
Most roles within our hospices involve contact with our patients and their loved ones but we do have a number of office-based positions too. Here are some examples of volunteer roles within our hospices:
Ward volunteer – help out on our wards in Shrewsbury and Telford by greeting visitors, offering companionship to patients, making hot drinks when requested and helping at meal times.
Transport volunteer – provide transport facilities to patients with limited access to their own transport who attend one of our day hospices or clinics. Having a full driving licence and regular access to a vehicle is desirable for this role but we do have a hospice car that can be used.
Reception support – welcome patients and visitors to the hospice, answer the phone, sort the post and carry out other clerical tasks. This role involves interacting with patients and bereaved relatives in a sensitive manner.
Admin support – provide general admin support for various hospice departments including our day hospice, lottery and appeals teams.
Gardening – help to maintain our award-winning gardens at our sites in Shrewsbury and Telford.
Kitchen assistant – work within our kitchens in Shrewsbury and Telford helping to provide a first class catering service for patients, visitors, staff and volunteers.
Laundry support – work within our laundry in Shrewsbury to provide a high standard of laundered items for our wards.
Complementary therapies (qualified therapists only) – provide complementary therapy for ward patients or those attending for the day.
Ward clerks – work alongside hospice staff, supporting our nurses with admin tasks.
