We are very fortunate to have an army of wonderful volunteers that work hard come rain or shine to maintain our award-winning gardens. From time to time we are also lucky to have groups of staff from local businesses come and spend a day with us.
The team of 23 managers from Sainsbury’s helped with a number of jobs including cutting back some of the well-established hedges lining the new walk way by the Day Hospice, shifting a huge pile of manure and removing some turf to extend one of the shrub beds.
Over in Shrewsbury the team of 29 from Whittingham Riddell cleared a large section of woodland floor of debris from fallen trees, cut back trees and undergrowth, dug out tree roots, moved silage bales and built huge bonfires to dispose of the foliage. The woodland by our kitchen gardens had become somewhat overgrown and was an ideal place for rabbits to hideout but now it’s a lot clearer.
Both teams worked really hard and achieved a huge amount in just one day. We are truly grateful to both teams for volunteering to help us in our gardens.
Spending a day working in our gardens can be a fantastic team building experience and helps make a difference in the local community. There is always plenty to be done so if your company or organisation would like to spend a day or half a day volunteering in our gardens please get in touch by calling Dan Smith on 01952 221 351.
