Come rain or shine you can find our dedicated team of volunteer gardeners working away to ensure the grounds at our hospices in Shrewsbury and Telford are looking their best. Our volunteers do so much to help us and never complain about having to go out in the rain or when it’s cold. They were also an integral part of the team that helped secure the It’s Your Neighbourhood awards for both sites. In recognition of all they do for the hospice we wanted to do something to show our appreciation and to say thank you for their continued support.
Earlier this month we decided to organise a special gathering at our hospice in Shrewsbury to say thank you to all our gardening volunteers. The lovely ladies in our kitchens kindly provided a beautiful selection of delicious cakes which were enjoyed in the warm and dry. Some of our Trustees and members of the Senior Management Team went along on the day to congratulate our volunteers on winning the awards and to thank them for all they do for the hospice.
Back outside in the gardens we have been continuing to prepare for winter by digging over boarders and adding compost ready for planting. We have also starting planting bulbs which will hopefully add a splash of colour in the spring.
This week’s hints and tips
Add a bit of winter colour by planting heathers and trailing ivy in tubs around the garden.
On a dry day mow the lawn with the blade on a high setting
