Volunteers – What we do…..

Severn Hospice is fortunate to have an extensive team of volunteers working in most departments at the three sites Shrewsbury, Telford (Shropshire) and Newtown (Powys).   Each volunteer is selected for his or her skills and life experience and together form an extremely valuable resource.   They work closely with the patients; complementing the professional staff with time to focus on the relatives and visitors giving support and companionship when needed.   All volunteers have access to training that is designed to enhance their own approach.   We are also committed to the promotion and good practise of volunteering within the Hospice.

"My wife was at the Hospice for a short time, every one was so kind and caring. Being a Driver, I am returning the kindness."

Eric
"I heard about the Hospice through a colleague . In the years I have been privileged to work here, I have grown as a person, enriched by the warm, loving atmosphere, and most of all, by the amazing people who have touched my life. I have learnt humility."

Sue
"With my nursing background, I feel that Volunteering at the Hospice is enjoyable due to the friendly and warm atmosphere"

Anne

"Soon after the Hospice was opened I became aware what a remarkable place it was. The dedication and care given to the patients and relatives by staff and volunteers was outstanding. I decided I would like to make a contribution to this wonderful organisation when I retired. As a natural outgoing person I enjoy meeting people and putting them at ease. My role as a receptionist gives me this opportunity."
