Hafan Day Hospice

On the 8 September 1998, Hafan Day Hospice was officially opened.

Hafan is Welsh and translated into English means “peace”. The name was chosen by local school children.

The Day Hospice is in the grounds of the Montgomery County Infirmary ( Newtown Hospital).

What we offer

Hafan Day Hospice is open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays each week.   Under the guidance of Sister Lynda Williams and her staff the patients enjoy companionship and receive support in a friendly and relaxed environment.   This includes trips, talks, slide shows, plus a very industrious craft group.

Some nursing care is offered as is symptom control and Diversional Therapy.   The Consultant Doctor from Shrewsbury visits to assess patients and offer advice.

Volunteers assist, befriending patients and offering complementary therapies.   The Hospice Volunteer Co-ordinator keeps in close touch.   If you are interested in volunteering at Hafan Day Hospice please click on the volunteers button.

The Chaplain occasionally visits to offer on going support to the team.   Patients may be offered additional support by him at home.

Close links are maintained with the patients own Doctor, District Nurses and in particular the local Macmillan Nurses who call in regularly.

How can I be referred?

Enquiries can be made by patients, their carers and healthcare professionals by contacting Lynda Williams on 01686 617204 (Tuesday and Wednesday) following which a referral to the Hospice from your GP would be required.
