DAY HOSPICE – SHREWSBURY WHO ARE WE? We are part of the Severn Hospice, providing Hospice Day Care for residents of Shrewsbury, North and South Shropshire. WHERE ARE WE? We are based at the main Severn hospice site in Bicton Heath, Shrewsbury. WHAT DO WE DO? Our aim is to enable people with progressive illness to lead as normal and high quality life as possible. Many different facilities are on offer at the Day hospice to facilitate this: medical advice, nursing advice, access to physiotherapists, social workers, occupational therapists, the chaplaincy team and complementary therapists. In addition, our diversional therapists organise many creative activities which people are welcome to join in or not depending entirely on how they feel. Friendship and support from fellow patients and our team of volunteers can also be invaluable. We liaise closely with GPs, Macmillan nurses or Hospice Outreach nurses to aid high quality care. WHEN ARE WE OPEN? We are open at our Shrewsbury Day Hospice on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursday. Patients attend on the same day each week, so they quickly get to know staff, volunteers and other patients. People arrive from 9.30 onwards and are made welcome with a cup of tea or coffee. Lunch, which is freshly prepared and caters to individual needs, is served at about midday. People leave for home at 3.00 – 3.15 p.m. For those people unable to get here independently transport is available. CLINIC DAY For those people who might wish to access particular services, e.g. medical advice, complementary therapy, but who would not wish to attend for a whole day, we have a clinic day on Wednesday. REFERRALS. We are happy to accept referrals from GP’s, Hospital Consultants and specialist nurses e.g. Macmillan nurses and Hospice Outreach nurses. If you would like more information please contact one of the nursing team on 01743 236565 ext 542 on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. |
