Hafan Day Hospice
Telford Hospice front

Severn Hospice cares for those with progressive illnesses across a broad age range. We help those who need us by our high standards of nursing and medical care, trying always to sustain their quality of life and relief from pain. To their families, friends and carers we offer the same loving support, help and counselling because incurable illnesses affect whole families.

Severn Hospice first opened its doors in 1989 after a decade of fundraising in Shropshire and Mid Wales led by Shelia Laws, founder Chairman of the Hospice. Since opening in 1989 we have cared for over 12,000 patients and take on over 1000 new referrals each year.

We have a variety of services to help patients enjoy a better quality of life, often enabling them to do things they thought had gone forever. It is all about love and understanding and so many of life’s little extras. The Hospice is not just a place where people come to die, many go back home again. Many carers are glad of the respite to re-charge their batteries and rekindle their commitment to those they love.

Our services include an in-patient facilitie - a 21 bedded ward at Bicton Heath, plus Day Hospices at Hafan in Newtown, Bicton Heath and Apley Castle. We also have a team of Outreach Nurses and a Hospice at Home service which provide care to patients within their own home at different stages of their illness.

All our services to patients and their families is offered free of charge, but this care does not go without cost as it takes £4.9million to run the Hospice each year.
